BETWEEN THE PRESCRIBED AND THE LIVED: APPROPRIATIONS OF THE PROFESSIONAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL EDUCATION POLICY AT CEFET-MG ACCORDING TO THE MEMORY OF ITS FORMER TEACHERS (1971-2004)

Abstract

The article analyzes the appropriations and impacts of Professional and Technological Education policies at the Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET-MG) between 1971 and 2004. Using the methodology of Oral History, the study is based on the memories of five former teachers of the institution to investigate the constant tension between the "prescribed norm" by State legislation and the "lived norm" in everyday school life. The historical narrative is divided into three central axes: compulsory professionalization during the civil-military dictatorship (Law No. 5,692/71); the redemocratization process in the 1980s and curricular disputes; and teacher resistance against the dismantling of integrated education in the 1990s. It is concluded that the consolidation of Integrated High School and polytechnic education in the institution is a direct result of the historical agency and political resistance of its educators in defense of comprehensive human formation.
