THE ENGLISH TEACHING IN THE BRAZILIAN EDUCATION AND THE PERSPECTIVES OPENED BY THE BASE NACIONAL COMUM CURRICULAR

This article sought understading how the English language, as well as other foreign languages were inserted in the educational Brazilian curriculum, motivated by economics, politics and cultural motivation. For this purpose, it was carried out a bibliographic research in order to identify the critical reflections and the relevant data already outlined, to then help in the comprehension of the politic curricular decisions that shaped the path till this point with the Base Nacional Comum Curricular – BNCC. Throughout the history, languages as French and, more recently, English, have developed strategic functions in the diplomatic relations and in the country’s economy, for this reason the dynamic of the curricular decisions are related with the diverse relations Brazil has historically maintained and continues to forge with different nations, according to their level of influence. Thus, the BNCC prescribes the teaching of English language because of its significance in the contemporary world and its ubiquity across various spheres of society, thus considering it as a language franca that is used by different people, diverse cultures around the world who engage in dialogue through this same language.
