Abstract

This study addresses the relevance of emotional support and the provision of appropriate guidance to mothers and caregivers following the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Based on the recognition of the emotional demands experienced by atypical mothers in this context, the research aims to understand the psychological and social repercussions associated with the lack of emotional support and psychoeducational guidance directed at this population. It also seeks to analyze how the insufficiency of such support may contribute to maternal psychological distress after the confirmation of the diagnosis, considering the impacts of this experience on family dynamics and on the quality of life of these women. The findings highlight the importance of strengthening formal and informal support networks, as well as implementing interventions that promote welcoming environments, qualified listening, and guidance for mothers and caregivers. Such strategies are essential for promoting mental health, reducing psychological distress, and improving coping conditions in the face of the diagnosis, contributing to a more humanized and comprehensive form of care for families.
