FUNCTIONALITY OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN ILHÉUS

Abstract

Public transportation plays a fundamental role in society for population mobility and quality of life, ensuring people’s transportation to access work, schools, healthcare, and leisure. In developed cities and countries, this service is indispensable for the functioning of urban mobility and for serving the population that depends on public transportation daily for commuting. In the city of Ilhéus, public transportation users face difficulties and challenges related to fleet maintenance, delays, overcrowding, and high fares, factors that directly interfere with people’s daily lives and well-being. Considering this reality, this study aims to analyze the functioning of public transportation in the city of Ilhéus, addressing users’ challenges and the influence on the population’s quality of life. The research has a descriptive and exploratory nature, based on a bibliographic review carried out through books, scientific articles, and studies related to urban mobility. To support the results, applied research was conducted through the application of a questionnaire using the Google Forms platform, seeking to identify the difficulties faced in users’ daily routines and evaluate perceptions regarding the quality of public transportation. The results demonstrate the population’s dissatisfaction with the service provided, highlighting the need for improvements and investment in service delivery. In this sense, investing in infrastructure and efficient transportation planning can offer greater availability, comfort, and quality of life to users.
