DEPRESSION IN OLD AGE: CHALLENGES, BARRIERS, AND THERAPEUTIC APPROACHES

Abstract

This study aims to identify effective therapeutic approaches for the treatment of depression in the elderly, as well as to analyze the difficulties encountered in dealing with this condition. The research is based on a literature review of studies published between 2015 and 2024. It addresses topics such as factors that hinder diagnosis, the characteristics of depression in the elderly, pharmacological and psychotherapeutic strategies, and the importance of social and family support. The study aims to provide incentives for a more humanized and effective approach to the treatment of depression in the elderly, promoting the quality of life of this population.
