Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the impact of atrophic rhinitis on the respiratory health of pigs and its repercussions on productivity and profitability. The research was conducted through a bibliographic review with a qualitative approach, using the keywords "atrophic rhinitis," "progressive atrophic rhinitis," and "non-progressive atrophic rhinitis" in databases such as Scielo, Google Scholar, and CAPES Journals. The analysis focused on the etiologies of non-progressive atrophic rhinitis (caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica) and progressive atrophic rhinitis (caused by Pasteurella multocida), considering their clinical manifestations, pathogenic mechanisms, and zootechnical impacts. The results show that the disease compromises animals' respiratory health, reduces feed conversion efficiency, increases production costs, and affects profitability. The literature indicates that effective control depends on a combination of strict biosecurity, early diagnosis, vaccination, and improvements in environmental management. It is concluded that, although no fully effective treatment exists, the joint adoption of these strategies is essential to reduce disease prevalence and ensure the sustainability of pig production.
