NURSING AND HEALTH EDUCATION IN THE PREVENTION OF TRICHOMONIASIS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

Trichomoniasis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis, is a public health problem, especially among women of childbearing age. It is often asymptomatic, making diagnosis difficult and increasing the risk of complications. In this context, nurses play an essential role in prevention, treatment, and education on safe sex practices. This study analyzes the contribution of nursing to health education on trichomoniasis, proposing educational actions to train nurses to promote sexual health. The research, based on a literature review, highlights that health education, especially on the part of nurses, is crucial for prevention. Educational strategies adapted to local reality increase awareness of preventive practices, such as the use of condoms. However, challenges such as the lack of research on the disease and cultural resistance to the use of condoms still hinder preventive actions. In conclusion, the study reinforces the importance of health education and ongoing training of professionals to improve early diagnosis and adherence to treatment.
