Abstract

Brazil ranks among the top 5 largest producers of pork in the world, and this activity holds great importance for both the national and global economy. As a result, extensive research has been conducted over the years to make production more efficient. In order to achieve improvements in production, the development of techniques and advancements in reproduction was indispensable. With the widespread use of artificial insemination in pig farming, numerous studies and innovations have emerged. These new technologies aim to reduce production costs, increase productivity, and decrease reliance on labor, which has become scarcer over the years. Furthermore, the technification of pig farming continues to progress, and the development of new techniques has been crucial for the growth of the swine industry. It is also important to highlight the evolution achieved through genetic selection, made possible thanks to the development of reproductive biotechnologies. Therefore, this work aims to present the techniques currently used in pig reproduction, as well as their advantages and disadvantages.
