THERAPEUTIC HYPOTHERMIA AFTER OUT-OF-HOSPITAL CARDIAC ARREST IN ADULTS

Abstract

This article sought to analyze the effectiveness of therapeutic hypothermia, considering the initial rhythm presented, and to evaluate each of its parameters (target temperature, time of induction, cooling method and duration of hypothermia) in order to correlate them with their respective performances in increasing the survival with good neurological prognosis in these patients. The integrative literature review method was used with previous works present in the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases, and a total of 30 scientific articles were selected after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Through the studies analyzed, it was observed that the real benefits of therapeutic hypothermia have not yet been completely established by the current literature, in addition, studies from the last decade have not demonstrated any advantage of therapeutic hypothermia over targeted normothermia. New studies should be carried out to assess whether measures to prevent hyperthermia alone can increase survival and the long-term neurological prognosis of adult victims of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
