Domestic violence affects the entire society because, besides the real consequences in women's lives, it also has repercussions throughout the justice and health systems. Therefore, it is understood that combating abuse should not only happen after the violence occurs, as punishment; it is necessary to prevent it from happening in the first place. In Brazil, the main tool for preventing violence is the imposition of protective measures against the aggressor, which can be established after the victim's request. Their purpose is to keep the woman safe, preventing the violence from escalating into more serious crimes that threaten her life and physical integrity. Protective measures have already shown that they can safeguard the victim, but in many cases, they are not enough. The ineffectiveness of these measures can be attributed to many factors, including emotional and financial dependence on their abusers. Many women return to the place where they live with their abusers because they lack resources and don't know how to live without them. This research presents a bibliographic study on the subject, exposing the legislation, doctrinal understandings, and case law, concluding with a demonstration of the impact that this financial and emotional dependence has on the national justice system.
