Abstract

The expansion of delivery applications in Brazil has transformed the labor market and urban dynamics, creating new income opportunities but also significant challenges for workers’ social protection. The absence of specific regulation places couriers in a legal limbo between autonomy and indirect subordination, characterized by algorithmic control, variable remuneration, and socioeconomic vulnerability. This study analyzes the social, economic, and legal impacts of this work model, identifying the main weaknesses faced by delivery workers and discussing regulatory alternatives debated in Brazil and internationally. The research, qualitative and exploratory in nature, was based on bibliographic review, institutional studies, and statistical data. The study concludes that regulation is urgent to ensure minimum rights, establish transparency standards, and guarantee decent working conditions without compromising the flexibility inherent to digital platforms.
