Abstract

This article sought to identify the main complications associated with facial fillers with hyaluronic acid. To this end, a search of PubMed databases was conducted using the keywords "Adverse Events," "Hyaluronic Acid," and "Dermal Filler." The inclusion criteria were articles in Portuguese or English that directly addressed the use of hyaluronic acid in facial procedures and its potential complications. After applying the criteria, seven scientific articles were selected. The main findings were that, although the safety and efficacy of hyaluronic acid have been demonstrated, complications such as edema, erythema, nodules, and inflammatory reactions are being reported proportionally to the increase in the procedure's performance. Therefore, it is concluded that product characteristics, application technique, and asepsis are determining factors in the occurrence of complications, which are considered rare. Even so, hyaluronic acid remains a good material choice due to its efficacy and low rate of serious adverse events.
