This study aimed to analyze the impacts of the legislative change resulting from Extraordinary Appeal Nº 635.659/2024, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), on the actions of the Paraná State Military Police in combating drug use for personal consumption. This applied research, with a qualitative and documentary approach, was supported by comparative statistical data between the periods before and after the decision. The analysis revealed a 23.6% reduction in the number of Circumstantial Terms issued, from 7,044 to 5,380, indicating that the new legal interpretation directly impacted the Police's operational routine. Although September 2024 saw a specific increase in reports, the overall pattern was a decline, especially, after the reclassification of possession of up to 40 grams of cannabis sativa as an administrative offense. However, challenges remain regarding the characterization of drug trafficking, maintaining the chain of custody, and the need to standardize operational procedures. This study contributes to understanding the impact of marijuana decriminalization on public safety, highlighting the importance of regulatory updates and professional training for the Paraná Military Police.
