Parturition in cattle is a critical physiological event that can be complicated by the presence of congenital malformations in calves, characterized by anatomical or functional alterations present from birth. These malformations may have genetic, environmental, or infectious origins and can lead to dystocia, stillbirths, and significant economic losses in production. Among the most common malformations are craniofacial, skeletal, and visceral alterations, which can compromise neonatal viability. Early diagnosis through clinical evaluation, gestational ultrasonography, and reproductive history, combined with proper obstetric management, is essential to minimize risks to both the cow and the calf. Prevention involves genetic control, adequate nutritional management, and sanitary monitoring, contributing to a reduction in the occurrence of malformations and improved reproductive performance of the herd.
