Abstract

This article discusses Salmonella infections in poultry production, addressing aspects related to epidemiology, pathogenicity, transmission routes, and prevention and control strategies. The occurrence of Salmonella spp. represents a significant sanitary and economic challenge for the poultry industry and a relevant public health concern due to the high morbidity associated with infections in birds and humans. The main poultry-related serotypes are highlighted, including Salmonella Gallinarum, Salmonella Pullorum, Salmonella Enteritidis, and Salmonella Typhimurium, which are frequently associated with disease outbreaks and production losses. The study emphasizes the importance of biosecurity measures, sanitary monitoring, early diagnosis, and the implementation of integrated control programs on farms as essential strategies to reduce pathogen dissemination, minimize economic impacts, and ensure the safety and quality of poultry products intended for human consumption.
