This article aims to analyze the use of remotely piloted aircraft (RPA), popularly known as drones, as a technological tool to strengthen public safety actions. The incorporation of this equipment by police institutions and regulatory agencies has proven to be efficient in monitoring, preventing and combating crime, in addition to reducing operational costs and risks for security agents. The research, of a bibliographic and exploratory nature, discusses the main operational applications of drones, their benefits, and legal, ethical and technical challenges. It is concluded that, although there are limitations, the use of RPA represents a significant advance in police practices, contributing to the effectiveness of operations and the protection of society.
