This study aims to broaden the debate on female participation in politics, discussing the factors that underpin low representation and proposing possible solutions to reduce barriers to access to elected public office. This research uses a mixed methodological approach, combining a bibliographic review and analysis of statistical data on female participation in politics between 2016 and 2024, according to data from the Superior Electoral Court. The study uses the deductive method to identify the main factors that highlight the low representation of women in political spaces, analyzing both the historical, cultural, economic and legislative obstacles and the institutional barriers that limit this access. Based on the results obtained, the study lists possible alternatives to increase more equitable female participation in the electoral process, highlighting mainly changes in the legal framework, strengthening policies to encourage female candidacy and combating political gender-based violence.
