Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that compromises social communication, sensory perception, and behavior. Early identification of signs by the family enables appropriate multidisciplinary interventions, favoring child development. This study analyzes the relevance of early diagnosis for autistic children and adolescents, through a bibliographic review based on publications from Google Scholar, SCIELO, and PUBMED (2011-2024). We found that early diagnosis reduces the risk of more severe and permanent developmental sequelae. However, this reality is influenced by social resistance to understanding and normalizing ASD, perpetuating myths and prejudices that hinder both family acceptance and social inclusion. Therefore, raising awareness about ASD, expanding health services, and reducing stigma are essential to facilitate early diagnosis and ensure that all children have access to the development opportunities they deserve.
