Public management is one of the fundamental pillars for sustainable development and the promotion of collective well-being. In a country like Brazil, marked by profound social, economic and regional inequalities, efficiency and transparency in public administration are essential to ensure that public policies meet the real needs of the population. The book Public Management and its Applicability in Contemporary Brazilian Society emerges as a contribution to the debate on the challenges and opportunities of public administration in the Brazilian context, offering theoretical and practical reflections that aim to inspire managers, academics and citizens to rethink the role of the State in society. This book is organized into three chapters, each addressing crucial aspects of public management and its relationship with contemporary society. Chapter 1, The Principles of Public Management, explores the theoretical and practical foundations that guide public administration, from classical concepts to the most recent approaches. This chapter serves as a basis for understanding the values and guidelines that should guide the actions of public managers, such as transparency, efficiency, equity and social responsibility.
Chapter 2, State Transformations and Contemporary Challenges in Public Management, focuses on the structural changes that the Brazilian State has faced in recent decades, especially in a context of globalization, technological advances and growing demands for social participation. This chapter discusses the challenges posed by issues such as social inequality, corruption, excessive bureaucracy and the need for innovation, proposing ways to overcome these obstacles and build more agile and efficient public management.
Finally, Chapter 3, Public Company x Society Integration, addresses the relationship between public organizations and society, highlighting the importance of participatory and transparent management. This chapter explores topics such as strategic planning, participatory management and social responsibility, emphasizing the need to involve citizens in the decision-making process and to promote practices that guarantee universal access to essential services. Integration between public companies and society is seen as a key element in building a more democratic public administration that is aligned with the population's expectations.
Throughout this book, we seek not only to analyze the challenges of public management in Brazil, but also to present concrete proposals for its modernization. The work is intended for all those who believe in the transformative potential of public administration and who wish to contribute to the construction of a more just, inclusive and sustainable country. We hope that the reflections and insights presented here will inspire public managers, academics, students and citizens to rethink the role of the State and seek innovative solutions to contemporary challenges.
Brazilian public management is at a crucial moment of transformation, where the adoption of innovative practices and the overcoming of historical challenges are imperative for sustainable development and the promotion of collective well-being. This book is an invitation to reflect on the future of public administration in Brazil and to act in favor of a more just and equitable society.
