This study aimed to analyze how collaborative learning, mediated by digital technologies, contributes to the development of students' cognitive and social skills. The research focused on understanding the benefits of this educational approach, particularly in distance education environments, and the challenges encountered in its implementation. The methodology was bibliographic, involving a literature review on the topic. The study discussed the concept of collaborative learning, its theoretical foundations, the role of digital technologies in the interaction process, and its impacts on developing essential skills such as communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Challenges related to the need for technological competencies among students and educators, as well as inequality in access to technologies, were also identified. The conclusions highlighted that, despite its challenges, technology-mediated collaborative learning offers significant contributions to the educational process, playing a crucial role in students' academic and social development. Continued research on this topic is essential to overcome the identified limitations and to expand the application of technologies in diverse educational contexts.
