Drug poisoning in dogs represents a threat to the health of pets and is a common concern for owners and veterinarians. These conditions are routine in small animal clinics. Collie dogs have a mutation in the MDR1 gene, a fact that causes sensitivity with the use of some drugs, especially ivermectin. In this sense, this course conclusion work aims to address the risks of ivermectin poisoning in the Border Collie breed, and it is a qualitative research, based on an exploratory review of articles constructed through systematic analysis and wide range of academic works. Regarding the topic, the studies reviewed indicated that dogs with a mutation in the MDR1 gene are sensitive to the use of antiparasitics from the avermectin group, called ivermectin. Its use causes intoxication with neurological clinical signs such as: lethargy, excessive salivation, tremors, convulsions, inability to stand, disorientation, leading to death. Thus, our work concluded that the combination of genetic knowledge, attention to detail in dosing and effective communication between veterinarians and guardians are fundamental to ensuring the safety and well-being of dogs.
