The object of this study is the humanization of care in the urgent and emergency network, focusing on the role of nurses in carrying out the health care process, as urgent and emergency situations require decision-making and immediate actions to save lives and, in this context, how to humanize assistance? The general objective is to describe, in accordance with the literature, the actions and strategies used by nurses who work in urgency and emergency units to apply humanization in the care of patients and families in these units. This is an integrative literature review study that was carried out from December 2021 to December 2022 in the LILACS, BDENF, MEDLINE and SciELO databases. According to nurses' perception of humanization in urgency and emergency care, the implementation of methodologies, such as the reference nurse method, is essential to guarantee the quality of nursing care in urgency and emergency units. Humanized care values the performance of nurses' role in responsibility and autonomy for decision-making for quality care, treating each patient in a unique way. Good organizational practices and empathy are essential for a welcoming environment, preserving integrity, respect and human dignity. It is concluded that, in urgent and emergency situations, it is crucial that nurses develop a broader view of the importance of humanization for providing quality care. Humanized care, focused on the patient and professional development, requires sensitivity, attentive listening, acceptance and understanding of physical, emotional and psychosocial needs, these being the main strategic actions used by nurses in humanized care in urgencies and emergencies.
