PHARMACEUTICAL CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH ARTERIAL HYPERTENSION

Abstract

Pharmaceutical Care is a new role for the pharmaceutical professional, based on proactive actions advocated by the World Health Organization (WHO), based on pharmacovigilance and adequate pharmacology for each patient. The first studies evaluating the effectiveness of this intervention in the treatment of patients with uncontrolled hypertension demonstrate the effectiveness and potential contribution to controlling hypertension through non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatments acquired during pharmaceutical care. Clinical services are provided by pharmacists who play an active role in the health of individuals, families and communities through targeted interventions for patients, other health professionals and health services. Pharmacy services are designed to improve the quality of care and patient quality of life. Regarding the availability of effective treatment and monitoring, the control of arterial hypertension on a population scale is far from ideal, with lack of adherence and late initiation of drug therapy being the main reasons for the poor results of the treatment of arterial hypertension. Therefore, the follow-up of hypertensive patients by the pharmacist is fundamental, since the control of arterial hypertension depends on adherence and continuity of treatment.
