Abstract

The use of medication in o hospital environment can be considered one of the most performed processes during the patient's hospitalization, with an important interface to the work processes of doctors, nurses and especially the pharmacist. Many medication errors are committed during the various phases of using these technologies in the hospital environment, requiring a computerized operating system to carry out the dispensing of medicines and supplies in order to obtain and make available data to the Ministry of Health and to minimize errors, ensuring quality and patient safety. This research aims to know the medicine dispensing systems in the hospital environment. A literature review was carried out including the PubMed, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases in English and Portuguese, between the years 2015 to 2022. Dispensing serves, among other aspects, to qualify the management of pharmaceutical care, thus collaborating to increase access to medicines, and it is possible to observe the existence of three systems that can be used in dispensing: the distribution system by individualized dose, the distribution system by unit dose and the collective dispensing system. Thus, the pharmaceutical professional should be responsible for managing these safe, organized and efficient operating systems, being essential to control costs and ensure that the medical prescription is followed safely, as requested and within the appropriate time frame.
