Abstract

This article presents the development of research carried out with residents of a residential condominium, aiming to verify socio-environmental benefits, based on the elaboration of a domestic waste management plan (PGRD). In order to identify the sociodemographic characterization, desires, needs and knowledge of residents about their management; contribute to the environmental awareness of its residents; enable the elaboration of an informative booklet that contemplates the PGRD; and encourage the scientific production of students at the Centro Universitário Metropolitano da Amazônia - UNIFAMAZ, with a focus on environmental issues, in the urban context, as a way of providing teaching, research and extension. Its methodology seeks to compile a bibliography with a qualitative approach, through field research, with the application of questionnaires to 40 (forty) residents of the Denise Xavier Condominium - located in the city of Belém do Pará - as well as visits to public bodies, such as the Municipal Department of Sanitation (SESAN), State Secretariat for the Environment (SEMA) and the Sodium Waste Department of the Municipality (DRES). The aforementioned condominium was chosen due to the interest of its administration in developing the related research, given its relevance in relation to the management of waste produced by residents and because it is easily accessible. Its importance is justified by the possibility of understanding the risks that inadequate packaging can cause - including accidents - during collection or transport, in addition to attracting vectors that cause disease, making it possible, therefore, based on its results, to present models waste management solutions that solve these demands. In addition, waste recycling contributes to generating income and occupation for several people, reducing environmental degradation and the volume of waste produced.
