The article addresses the importance of postoperative feeding for cats, highlighting its influence on the recovery and well-being of animals after surgical procedures. The objective of the study is to analyze the effects of food during this period, considering aspects such as recovery, food intake, nutritional status, immune response and the challenges and recommendations for its implementation. The introduction presents the relevance of the topic, highlighting the importance of proper nutrition to promote wound healing, strengthen the immune system and prevent complications. The methodology describes the bibliographic review approach adopted, with the analysis of scientific studies and updated information on the subject. The results reveal the positive impact of postoperative feeding on the recovery of cats, showing that a nutritionally balanced diet contributes to proper healing, muscle and bone recovery, protection against infections and maintenance of nutritional status. In addition, the effect of diet on food intake and appetite of cats is discussed, emphasizing the importance of offering palatable food adapted to the individual needs of each animal. The evaluation of the ideal nutritional composition for postoperative feeding is discussed, highlighting the importance of essential nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and quality proteins. Different postoperative eating strategies are also compared, considering specific restrictions and recommendations to overcome challenges such as low appetite and nausea.
Finally, the influence of postoperative feeding on the immune response and nutritional status of cats is addressed, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet to strengthen the immune system, prevent infections and promote a healthy recovery. The article concludes that postoperative feeding in cats requires individualized care, adapted to the specific needs of each animal. Offering palatable food, monitoring progress and collaborating with veterinarians are key to ensuring an effective recovery and well-being for cats in this critical period.
