Abstract

Over time, emotional illnesses began to be seen more seriously around the world, with the increase in psychosomatic illnesses, today we have treatments ranging from therapies to the use of medications. Among the illnesses developed emotionally, there is an increase in anxiety, whether it is common or already treated as a disorder. Anxiety in general is a feeling, a sense of concern for the future or everyday situations that is something that happens or can happen to anyone and everyone, but when in excess summed up by symptoms and that harms the social life of that individual, it can be considered like an anxiety disorder. Anxiety disorder is considered a mental illness, which causes sweating, racing thoughts, difficulty concentrating, insomnia, this lack of sleep ends up leading to other health problems, such as heart problems, panic disorder, it is the domino effect of a series of diseases. Therapy, physical exercise, and the use of medication are the most common treatments used by doctors, but today treatment using medication produced from plant extraction is already possible. Passiflora incarnata extract, popularly known as passion fruit, and Melissa officionalis, known as lemon balm are some of the examples of extracts used in the treatment of anxiety, which have benefits such as calming and digestive properties, controlling nervous tension, helping with insomnia, among others. The benefits of using medicinal plants are very positive, studies prove that it does not cause addiction, has no negative side effects, and becomes accessible because the cost-benefit wins when talking about the use of synthetic drugs. Based on this study, we can state that the use of medicinal plants has positive results within the treatment of the individual with anxiety problems, which may be the common symptoms from mild to extreme, that after use, patients had improvements and or a decrease in symptoms.
