This article deals with the parental alienation syndrome, a term that designates the situation in which the child or adolescent is induced, through different forms and strategies of action, to destroy their bonds with one of the parents. In August 2010, Law No. 12,318 was enacted in Brazil, which deals with the subject, in support of the need to preserve the basic and fundamental rights of children and adolescents. The main objective of the law is to effectively control the good coexistence with both parents and children, thus establishing criteria about the rights of parents and children/adolescents. Law 13,058 of 2014 enshrined shared custody, which privileges the sharing of time spent with the children, with the parents having to share the way of raising and educating the child so that the education passes through the care of both. If there are indications of alienating practices, it is appropriate to initiate a proper procedure. Therefore, there are several measures to mitigate the impact of possible situations caused by such behavior.
