Abstract

When faced with the diagnosis of cancer in the pediatric context, parents or guardians for the child may feel destabilized to face this condition. Dreams, projects, routine, daily life, take a new course, related to the treatment bond and/or under the idea of finitude of the child's life. Faced with the context, using alternatives to not make the entire process that the oncological child will face during the treatment even more painful, by virtue of proposing measures of relief and comfort, and in offering the necessary support, the implementation of care practices that meet the patient as a whole, allowing a more dignified finitude is fundamental. Palliative care, in such a context, constitutes a viable alternative to deal with and face the situation, with regard to the patient and family. This is a bibliographical review type research, where academic Google was used as a database. The period chosen for the search for articles was the year 2021. The selection of articles took place through the establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria. The study aimed to: analyze how palliative care helps in the treatment of children with cancer, its scope in the family, and the contributions of nursing. This work is expected to highlight the importance of the applicability of palliative care, and its benefits both for pediatric cancer patients and their families, in order to link in this way greater visibility and knowledge on the subject, with regard to the existence and practice of care, making it more widespread in the academic and social environment and mainly seen as a beneficial and effective alternative by nursing and with regard to the health area.
