It is with great satisfaction that we present the book "Prison work: a brief analysis", which deals with the legislation pertaining to prison work and its legal and social effects of the implementation of labor activity in prisons.
The work offers a brief history of the types of punishment adopted up to the present time, as well as an analysis of legislation and the thinking of some scholars about labor therapy. In addition, the book points out the benefits arising from the adoption of prison work as a means of resocialization and reduction of recidivism.
Currently, the Brazilian prison system faces numerous challenges, and one of the most significant is the lack of job opportunities in prisons. This results in degrading living conditions for prisoners and contributes to criminal recidivism.
In this context, the adoption of prison work as a means of resocialization is a positive alternative to face this crisis. Through labor therapy, the prisoner is inserted into a work environment, which can contribute to the development of skills and to the strengthening of his self-esteem.
In this way, it is possible to envisage the possibility of a significant reduction in recidivism, in addition to an improvement in the living conditions of prisoners. In this sense, the book "Prison work: a brief analysis" contributes to the debate on this important and complex topic.
We recognize that prison work is not the definitive solution to the problems faced by the Brazilian prison system, but we believe that it is a promising way to re-socialize prisoners and reduce recidivism.
We hope that this work can contribute to reflection on this topic that is so important and challenging for Brazilian society.
