Cardiopulmonary arrest is conceptualized as the sudden interruption of heart rate associated with apnea, which is usually directly linked to electrical disturbances of the heart. The main objective of this study is to validate and recognize the importance of nursing care in cardiac arrest. The work was carried out through an integrative bibliographical review, using isolated descriptors and association of descriptors. The LILACS, BDENF and MEDLINE databases were used through the Virtual Health Library platform, after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the initial search with isolated descriptors and without criteria, the Virtual Health Library accounted for 766,930 published articles, and when associated descriptors and search filters were used, 673 articles related to the theme were found. Repetition of articles was noticed when using the associated descriptors and databases, with repetition in the total number of existing articles. Applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 41 articles were identified without repetition addressing the theme. This study revealed the lack of articles addressing the subject under study, and also showed that nurses' knowledge about cardiorespiratory arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation were considered insufficient by most of the studies used in this research. This study also evidenced that nursing actions during arrest are crucial for the patient's survival, as well as teamwork and multidisciplinary teams in the event of a cardiac arrest.
