Abstract

This article discusses the importance of food supplements in the diet of elderly dogs, since at this stage of life animals have specific nutritional needs. The objective is to present the benefits, composition, recommended doses, forms of administration, adverse effects and contraindications of food supplements for elderly dogs. A bibliographic research was carried out in scientific databases to collect data and evidence that supported the work. The results indicate that dietary supplements can bring significant benefits to the health and well-being of elderly dogs, such as improved quality of life, longevity and reduced risk of age-related diseases. However, it is important that the choice of supplement and the recommended dose are made carefully, taking into account the individual needs of each animal. Contraindications and adverse effects should also be evaluated before administering supplements.
