PENITENTIAL SYSTEM AND EFFECTS OF FEMALE IMPRISION

Abstract

If the situation of women in freedom is one of frequent discrimination, oppression and neglect by the State, when the subject is female prison, or women prisoners, the problems are even more serious. This course completion work makes an analysis about the increase in female incarceration, how it originated and also see how they came to be arrested, since many women enter the life of crime encouraged, or many not, by their comrades, making them a pivot outside the prison to carry on with their work since they, the bandits, are "impossible" to command crime outside the prison, so their companions end up doing all the dirty work, also entering into life of crime, drug trafficking, insertion in a new society where women have more active voice, equal rights to men and their place in society. I will present data from a survey carried out in penitentiaries in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, how Brazilian penitentiaries emerged and more specific data from Rio Grande do Sul, the state where I am located.
