Abstract

Baldness affects middle-aged adults, especially men. The cause of hair loss can be mediated by hormonal disorders, drugs – such as chemotherapy – and autoimmune diseases. As a secondary effect, the bearer of baldness can develop psychological and psychiatric problems. With this, several lines of research have been developing methods to delay or reverse hair loss. The most accessible methods are the use of topical or oral active principles that act directly on the hair follicles, restoring nutrition and strengthening the hair. in men. In Brazil, you do not need a medical prescription. However, it is important to consult with a specialist before starting to use the component. The drug acts as an inhibitor of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme, capable of converting the hormone testosterone into its active form, DHT (dihydrotestosterone). The reduction of the action of DHT levels in cases of benign prostatic hyperplasia, for example, helps to maintain the prostate tissue, to reduce the obstruction of the urethra, facilitating the elimination of urine, in addition to reducing the need for surgeries in the gland.A Finasteride is used to treat hair loss in men by decreasing the amount of the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the body. DHT, formed from testosterone, is able to act on hair follicles, promoting their atrophy. The reduction of active testosterone levels, promoted by finasteride, helps in capillary growth. On the other hand, there is Minoxidil that reduces systolic and diastolic blood pressure by decreasing peripheral vascular resistance through vasodilation. The smooth muscle of the resistance vessels must be considered as the site of action for the relaxing effect of Minoxidil. However, the biochemical mechanisms that produce the reduction in peripheral resistance have not yet been fully clarified. It could be shown in animal studies that Minoxidil blocks the entry of calcium into the cell membrane during depolarization. Several studies and observations suggest that, after Minoxidil administration, secondary mechanisms are activated that cause vasodilation. However, it is also used against hair loss and hair weakening.
