The research discusses the heuristic play in Early Childhood Education according to the “Base Nacional Comum Curricular – BNCC (National Curricular Common Base). Its general objective is to identify the conception of heuristic play in early childhood education reported by the document. Among the specific objectives are to examine playing in Early Childhood Education as conceived in the National Base; to learn theories and authors referring to heuristic play. The methodological procedures were grounded on bibliographic and documentary techniques, based on articles published in different journals, as well as legal documents. Regarding the results, heuristic play is built during early childhood development, in its social, intellectual, psychomotor aspects and in children's expressive, sensory, social and relational experiences. In addition to offering them access to cultural productions, it also through experiences that learning is built, by exploring actions and interactions with other children and adults, thus allowing development, socialization and learning. Considering the proposals of heuristic playing, it is concluded that the National Base (BNCC) suggests using unstructured materials, out of the context of commercialized toys. It is understood that those are ready-made, therefore, they do not favor the experimentation and possibilities of children's creativity. Contrarily, the exploration through unstructured materials allows children's creations and imagination to expand, enabling them to make their own discoveries and build new meanings for their games.
