Rumenotomy is used to diagnose and treat various conditions involving the stomach, including reticulitis, rumen acidosis, bloating, traumatic reticulitis, removal of foreign materials such as pouches and threads in the digestive tract, and atony of the omasum or abomasum. It can also be used to treat atony of the stomach or omasum that is located between the reticulum and the omasum or in the lower esophagus. Therefore, this research aims to answer the following question: What are the benefits of rumenotomy surgery for the health of the animal? The general objective of this study is to address the benefits of rumenotomy for the health of the animal. The research consisted of a qualitative case study, in which articles that address the theme were first selected, such articles will be taken from the aforementioned databases: Lilacs, Scielo and Capes Periodicals. The articles were those published in the last 05 years, covering the period from 2017 to 2022. The last stage of this research consisted of the case study of a male breeding bovine animal of approximately 6 years of age, after the visual assessment of the animal made by professionals , it was decided to start the rumenotomy procedure, since the owner was sure that the animal had ingested the plastic. However, the results from the observation of the rumenotomy surgery showed that it is of great benefit to the health of the animal, because through this surgical intervention it is possible to remove possible indigestible residues ingested by the animal, such as plastics, bags, among others.
