Abstract

The education of students with psychiatric illnesses in a prison school involves much more than the person with a disability, it also involves the family, school and society in their various contexts. The present study aimed to verify the importance of carrying out projects for better interaction of teaching processes, formal or non-formal, so that the student can be prepared to develop their mental capacities in the search for better learning results in a prison school. In order to achieve the objectives, a bibliographic research was carried out on the issues that involve Physical Education classes, as well as the application of a project to raise awareness of the need to carry out physical education in the school environment with students with psychiatric diseases from schools in prison, with professionals and students from a school located in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. The application of the project revealed the existence of several obstacles, such as lack of professionals and equipment, and in the case of students who are inserted in the prison system with psychiatric diseases, they are doubly excluded, and in order to have the expected results for schooling of these students, it is necessary to work in partnership with all the professionals involved in this process. Concluding that it is important that professionals encourage students to participate in all activities that are developed so that they have the necessary motivation, and from these activities, leave the cells for the room and classroom, so that they can have a development not only in carrying out physical activity, with better self-esteem, awareness of their body, whether for physical or mental well-being, but also encouraging them to participate in all other subjects that are part of the school's curricular component.
