Obesity has become one of the diseases with the highest level of poreoccupation, causing a great inconvenience to public health, increasing the rates of deaths affected by the pathology (ENES; SLATER, 2010; Ferreira, Sherley, et al 2006; Barbieri, AF, & Mello, RA 2012). The study aims to verify, through an integrative review, the possible effects that resistance exercise can provide in adults with obesity. This is a systematic literature review without meta-analysis. The following inclusion criteria were adopted in the present study: Being a randomized clinical trial; articles accessed in the Pubmed database; published between 2012 to 2022 (last ten years); written in Portuguese, Spanish or English; Obesity (both genders, aged up to 44 years); not athletes. In view of the data presented, it is possible to observe several health benefits for obese resistance training practitioners, including decreased body fat, improved lipid profile and hormonal control; improvement in inflammation, decreased insulin resistance, reduced plasma levels of PGRN, improved maximal strength, in addition to decreasing cardiometabolic risk factors. Although the results are optimistic, there is still a need for more studies related to the effects of resistance training for people with obesity, especially studies with different protocols in relation to the intensity, duration and frequency of exercise.
