Introduction: The stoma is an outlet for cleaning, an abdominal wall or an opening, permanently or a temporary outlet for a toilet or urine outlet, as well as an aid in feeding or feeding. Objective: The ostomized woman has an active life, a quality of life, even though she has some limitations, raising her self-esteem, breaking taboos and prejudices in this way we are empowering these ostomized women to have an active social, sexual, psychosocial life. Materials and Methods: This is a study that seeks to cover general aspects of a social context in order to broaden their understanding of the empowerment of ostomized women. A thorough search was carried out for articles and publications dealing with this topic, the search was carried out in five national and international databases. Results: The study showed that in nursing care for patients with stomas, it is also extremely important to stimulate self-care for ostomates to enable them to achieve independence and social reintegration. Conclusion: Based on the analysis developed, the studies showed that ostomy has an important impact on women's lives, affecting the way they experience their self-esteem, sexuality, social life, and it is essential that the nurse, as a health professional, provides humanized and educational.
