BREASTFEEDING AND THE MAIN INTERCURRENCES THAT LEAD TO EARLY WEANING

Breastfeeding (BF) is an importante achievement because it is a fator that reduces infant morbidity and mortality. Breastfeeding should be a prolonged act about the first 6 months of life and continuous until the age of 2 years as a complementary food, ensuring na adequate structural and functional development of tissues, organs and orofacial structures. The complications that arise during this phase such as engorgement, fissure and breast mastites have been the basis for studies due to their direct relationship with early weaning. The study aimed to research on BF and the main complications that lead to early weaning through a bibliographic review of the literature. A search was carried out to select the Keywords of selecting the following terms “breastfeeding”, “ maternal and child health” and “inflammatory processes” as search descriptors, with a final selection of 15 articles between the period from 2008 to 2021. The literature has pointed out decisive intercurrences for early weaning, and has shown a large percentage of women who enter the non-breastfeeding statistics every year. Thus, it is concluded that BF is essential in the life of the infant expected to reduce risk factors and promote healthy development. Encourage through educational actions and guidance during the consultation, avoiding damage to the baby’s growth, bringing quality in the lactation phase for the mother and providing health for both.
