This article sought to evaluate, through a literature review, the action of botulinum toxin type A in the prevention of the facial aging process and in the fight against wrinkles and expression lines. Aging is a set of morphological, biochemical and physiological changes, being a process that is immutable, slow, progressive and continuous. As the individual ages, this organ is subject to major changes, showing signs of sagging, dryness and the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines. Thus, the use of botulinum toxin A (Botox) has been one of the most used methods to treat these wear and tear presented by skin aging. The review took place through searches of scientific articles contained in the Virtual Health Library (BVS) and Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO) databases, using the descriptors skin aging and botulinum toxin type A, registered in the Health Descriptors (DeCS) , taking into account the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the research. Thus, it was possible to observe that Botulinum Toxin type A is the most recommended to treat undesirable effects resulting from facial skin aging, such as wrinkles, expression lines and sagging, proving to be effective when performed correctly with the administration of doses. and good application technique, according to the facial anatomy and individual aspects of each patient, so that satisfactory and effective results are obtained without generating complications. Thus, the research was able to contribute to a greater collection of knowledge on the subject, contributing to the development of more research and studies in the area of Biomedicine and Aesthetics in general.
