Introduction: Death belongs to the natural cycle of life - birth, development and death. Today this phenomenon is still seen as taboo by society. Although nurses regularly encounter the finitude of being, they have a greater fragility and resistance in particular to accept this event, which is often seen as the opposite of their profession. Objective: To describe what has been published on the nurse's perspective regarding the process of death and dying. Methodology: This is a systematic literature review article in the nursing field with a descriptive qualitative approach, which seeks, through original articles, publications that discuss the theme of the process of death and dying. This study consisted of publications indexed in the electronic database of the Virtual Health Library, referring to the nurses' feelings about death, in the period from 2011 to 2020. Results: Searched the database, 10 articles were found that addressed the object of study. After exhaustive reading of these articles, the following categories of analysis emerged: the process of death and dying, the process of dying and dying in the hospital context, the nurse facing the process of dying and dying and difficulties and strategies in coping with the process of dying and die. Final considerations: Taking into account what was observed during the conception of this research, an investment is therefore proposed in the qualification of nurses still in graduation, with the offer that the theme has a specific discipline with techniques and practices applied in the classroom., thus making the professional future more prepared and qualified to deal with this process.
