This article deals with a literature review about upper airway infections (URI). It presents a literature review through the deductive method, with research on websites, online articles with descriptive purpose based on renowned authors and various publications on the subject. According to the references used, URTIs could already be classified as recurrent URTIs from three or more infections per autumn-winter period or semester. According to a study carried out with outpatients with complaints of recurrent infections, it was found that approximately 50% of them were probably healthy children, 30% were allergic, 10% had some chronic pathology and 10% were immunodeficient. According to the research, the follow-up of these children should have as a starting point the attempt to identify an underlying cause for the recurrent respiratory processes. Probably healthy children generally show normal growth and development. Thus, the types of infections, their causes, diagnoses, symptoms, prevention, treatment and possible complications are described. It is recommended the use of up-to-date diagnostic and therapeutic concepts and conducts in clinical practice, as well as the reduction of the indication of unnecessary diagnostic tests and unnecessary treatments that could be benefiting children with common respiratory infections.
