Abstract

Introduction: Theaddition of immunomodulatory nutrients in the diet is capable of reducing post-traumatic hypermetabolism and improving the patient's immune competence. Thus, nutritional intervention should be started early to mitigate the adverse effects of the hypermetabolic response and, thus, contribute to the healing process, minimize the inflammatory response, control body depletion and decrease morbidity and mortality. Case Description: An immunomodulatory nutritional supplement was offered for 15 days in the postoperative period during a hospital stay for a patient with osteomyelitis admitted to a pediatric hospital, in the city of Salvador-Bahia, in 2018. And it was observed the regeneration of the injured tissue and reduction of the wound size in daily metric monitoring.Discussion: Using the nutritional supplement and the care of the multidisciplinary team, as well as the introduction of antibiotic therapy and surgical treatment favored the patient's organic responses. Before using the Using the nutritional supplement and the care of the multidisciplinary team, as well as the introduction of antibiotic therapy and surgical treatment favored the patient's organic responses. Before using the supplement, the patient's diet was an oral diet, normal for age, however, given the need for a hyper-protein nutritional support with specific nutrients for healing and improvement of the lesion. With the nutritional intervention, the improvement of the lesion was evidenced, and the length of hospital stay decreased.
