Abstract

Introduction: The use of medication manipulation in magistral pharmacies has been a challenge. Currently, magistral pharmacies - also known as pharmacies with manipulation or manipulation - have been standing out in the scenario of Brazilian medicines. It is the branch of the pharmaceutical profession that has grown the most in recent years and represents an important economic source in the Brazilian market, since it is also one of the segments that most employs pharmacists in Brazil. According to Bonfilio (2010), with the growth of the market, particularly in the field of master pharmacies, the need to offer safe and quality products becomes evident. According to data from the National Association of Magistral Pharmacists (ANFARMAG), Brazil is already the world's largest market for compounding pharmacies. There are seven thousand establishments in the country, showing a 40% growth between the years 2002 to 2007, whose revenue reaches R $ 1.3 billion per year, which represents 9% of the medication market (ANFARMAG, 2007). Objective: To evaluate the advantages of using manipulated drugs vs. industrialized drugs. Materials and methods: This study is qualitative, explanatory and deductive from a bibliographic review with publications between 2000 and 2020 in the English and Portuguese languages that present theoretical and scientific references to validate the present research. Final considerations: The pharmaceutical industry offers restricted presentations of a drug; magistral pharmacies produce the same medicine in different forms, presentations and concentrations allowing better and greater adaptation to the needs of each patient.
