This study examined the Brazilian scenario, and especially the northern region, regarding intellectual property directed at the fuel sector. The aim was to provide a comprehensive national overview, while also addressing regional fuel issues, in order to outline the Brazilian reality within the intended niche. Thus, bibliographic research was used, based on official and up-to-date documents to gather solid data on a national scale, in addition to research available in scientific frameworks, such as leading journals on the subject. It was possible to obtain a projection for the Brazilian scenario, with the advancement of international agreements, such as the EU-Mercosur agreement, and public policies, such as the "fuel of the future." However, the northern regional panorama appears weak and lacking in regulatory and governmental stimulus, possessing the worst scores in technological innovation in the country. Nevertheless, the future projection appears promising when considering the innovative opportunity presented by the challenges and the geographical indication as a means of protecting biodiversity.
