DIABETES MELLITUS, POST TRAUMATIC DIABETES INSIPIDUS: A CASE REPORT AND A BRIEF LITERATURE REVIEW

Objective: To describe the report of a patient who developed diabetes insipidus after a traumatic episode. What makes the case interesting is the presence of two distinct pathologies, diabetes mellitus and diabetes insipidus that although there is this disagreement regarding definition, pathophysiology and treatment, there is a similarity regarding the clinical picture of hyperglycemia. Therefore, each of these comorbidities will be addressed, distinguishing them in order to understand the patient's clinic. Methods: This is an experience report about a patient with post-traumatic diabetes insipidus. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a complex syndrome resulting from a metabolic imbalance characterized by excess blood glucose. Diabetes insipidus, on the other hand, is a syndrome characterized by a disturbance in the metabolism in the synthesis, secretion or action of ADH (anti-diuretic hormone). There are several causes for its development, one of them being traumatic brain injury. Case report: In this article, the authors report the case of a 49-year-old male patient, multiple trauma, who developed diabetes insipidus discovered 3 years later the trauma. Conclusion: Therefore, they discuss the pathophysiology, clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment and make a brief review of the medical literature.
