The article explores the expansion of wind energy in Brazil, focusing on the Northeast region, recognized for its high potential for this renewable source. The analysis is grounded in the need for clean energy sources to meet the growing national demand and promote sustainable development. The study focuses on the environmental and economic impacts resulting from the installation of wind farms, highlighting the consequences for biodiversity and local communities. The main objective is to investigate how the expansion of this energy modality influences natural habitats, living beings such as birds and bats, and nearby residents, while also evaluating the economic and social benefits, such as job creation and diversification of the energy matrix. The adopted methodology consists of a documental review, which allowed the collection of relevant data on environmental and social impacts and public policies related to wind energy. It is concluded that to ensure sustainable development, more efficient planning is imperative, including mitigation policies, the use of advanced technologies, and greater engagement of local communities.
