Abstract

The abuse of animals is a subject that has been frequently discussed by society and the media in general. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to study the abuse of animals. Thus, the mistreatment of domestic animals and the trafficking of wild animals will be discussed. Furthermore, the objective is to analyze whether, in fact, animals are legal beings. For this, the method used will be bibliographical research with the analysis of Brazilian legislation and scientific articles. Finally, the information obtained allowed us to understand, above all, the insufficiency of Brazilian legislation to combat such abuse and protect animals, whether domestic or wild. Furthermore, it was possible to notice that the discussion about whether or not animals have rights still exists, however, scholars have not yet reached a consensus on the topic, which has generated arguments both favorable and unfavorable.
