: The use of psychoactive substances is a universal phenomenon that has permeated civilizations since ancient times. Nevertheless, it is possible to notice that its access and consumption have increased year after year among young adults and adolescents, prompting problems not only for drug users and their family members, but also for society as a whole. This is because drug use can lead to several issues, such as rise in crime, school discrepancy, violence and so forth. However, to comprehend the subject presented, it is vital to contextualize that this is one of the most important and intense periods of human development, due to the number of biopsychosocial transformations that happen during teenage years. Therefore, it is key to study the individual at this stage of life, getting to know the risk and protection factors and the vulnerabilities that constitute this period. Also, mapping the possible circumstances that lead teens to the use of substances and, mainly, creating strategies that allow them to act preventively and reduce the number of teens that start to experiment, use, abuse and become dependent on psychoactive substances.
